However the summer season, witnesses a cultural explosion within the region, with a events calendar spanning June through September, offering a myriad of festivals, from sand sculptures competitions, to flea markets and locals crafts, but with four countries to navigate, multiple dates to arrange and too many wine and cheese stops on route it would be easy to be overwhelmed. So we have highlighted the three key festivals if you’re planning a visit this summer.

Bregenz Festival (19.07 – 20.08.2017 )

The famous opera festival on the world’s largest floating stage is held every year during the summer. The actors and audience turn the city into a multicultural meeting point. The floating stage is the main event but the accompanying programme such as the annual opera in the Festspielhaus, top-notch orchestral concerts, modern theatre productions and the “Kunst aus der Zeit” series provide more than enough reasons to enjoy a visit. This year’s opera is Carmen.

This traditional popular celebration takes place on August 15. The national holiday of Liechtenstein starts with an official act of state on the lawn next to Vaduz Castle with speeches by Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein and the President of the Parliament, Albert Frick. In the afternoon, the entire country of Liechtenstein parties till late at night. The highlight of this popular celebration is the always-magnificent firework, launched punctually at 22 hours from the castle; it often illuminates the entire Rhine valley.
