From the renowned Frankfurt Book Fair to international award ceremonies and film festivals, the events of Frankfurt’s film and media industry are truly spectacular. But the metropolis is also a centre of literature and performing arts, with readings, exhibitions and stage shows being held at the German Film Museum, the House of Literature and on Frankfurt’s many stages throughout the entire year.

Here is news of two upcoming events

The Frankfurt Book Fair is one of the premier events of the international publishing industry, an appointment that simply cannot be missed. During the fair, which this year is taking place from 10th to 14th October, Frankfurt is busier than ever, its restaurants, pubs and bars simply brimming with activity. And the fair is not just for industry professionals.

As always, the final two days will see the doors of the world’s largest book show opened to the general public. Countless book fair-related events will also be taking place all across the city at this time, focusing on literature of most every genre. The readings making up the Open Books series, which is organised by Frankfurt’s Department of Cultural Affairs and held at various downtown locations, are mostly free of charge. This year’s Culinary Festival, also taking place during the Frankfurt Book Fair, is dedicated to promoting the cuisine of New Zealand, the theme country of the 2012 show.

Friends of literature and the performing arts also have a year-round offer spectrum available to them at the city’s many museums and theatres. The permanent exhibition of the German Film Museum presents interactive exhibits that highlight the history of film while also shedding light on the many means and methods of film production.

The museum also put on show regular changing exhibitions on the subject of cinema and film. On 14th November, for example, an exhibition entitled “And The Oscar® goes to…” will be kicking off at the museum. Running until April 2013, this highly interesting exhibition will be looking back at 85 years of Oscar history. The German Film Museum is also home to a small movie theatre, one of the three municipal cinemas of the City of Frankfurt am Main.
