New Tours And Special Events To Commemorate WWI Centenary

ACE Cultural Tours marks the centenary of the First World War in 2014 with two fascinating new tours and a week of special events.

A Journey Through The Great War, June 02–07, 2014, £985

In A Journey Through the Great War, we trace the chronology of the First World War through the battlefields and memorials of Flanders and the Somme. In the company of soldier turned academic John Greenacre, we consider not only the great battles that punctuated the four years, but seek to deepen our understanding of the First World War as an evolving conflict, in which the nature of warfare was constantly changing.

Vienna 1914, October 06–13, 2014, £1450

We examine the art and architecture of the Vienna Secession in our second new tour, Vienna 1914. Antebellum Vienna, capital of the still mighty Austro-Hungarian Empire, was a magnet for Europe’s finest artists, musicians and intellectuals. We consider the effects of the conflict on the city, and on artists from Klimt to Schiele as they increasingly turned to war themes in their work.

World War One Centenary Week at Stapleford Granary, November 2014

Finally, November 2014 will see a special week of music, art, and literature events run by our parent charity, the ACE Foundation, at the Stapleford Granary. We are especially delighted to be welcoming the Goldfield Ensemble, our very first resident ensemble, to give a concert of chamber music composed during the Great War.
