Launching New Destinations, More Themed Cruises And A New Brand – Celestyal Cruises

Eastern Mediterranean cruise specialist Louis Cruises will be launching a new brand, Celestyal Cruises, for the 2015 season. This new brand will cover all its Greek cruise experiences including its three, four and seven-night Greek islands and Turkey trips which depart from Athens on the Cristal and Olympia ships, which have capacity for 1,200 and 1,664 passengers respectively. Celestyal, which stems from celestial, means “pertaining to the stars” and “heavenly” or “divine.”

Announcing the launch, Louis Cruises sales director Pythagoras Nagos commented, “By launching Celestyal, we are expanding the Louis Cruises portfolio and reflecting the divine, real Greek experience that customers enjoy when sailing with us.

We’ve chosen this name to honor our ancestors, the Ancient Greeks, who were among the first peoples to use celestial navigation. As early as the third century BC, Greek mariners were using the Little Bear to navigate their ships.

Fresh itineraries and authentic onboard experiences

The brand launch follows three years of research into what customers and travel trade partners want and coincides with a redevelopment of its itineraries and onboard experiences.

In 2013 they launched voyages which offered passengers the best of the Aegean’s “Iconic” destinations, such as Mykonos, Patmos, Rhodes and Santorini, as well as new “Idyllic” Aegean destinations, undiscovered gems such as Chios, Ios, Kos, Milos, Samos, Symi, Syros and the “Turkish Riviera” ports of Bodrum and Cesme. The ships’ onboard entertainment, bar and restaurant menus were revised focusing on traditional Greek cuisine and ingredients and a personalised service offered that defines Greek hospitality.

Pythagoras Nagos continued, “We are the only operator offering short cruises in the Med – that’s something unique. We can go to a number of fantastic off-the-beaten track islands that other bigger cruise operators cannot get to because our ships are smaller.”

This year the company launched 64 new themed itineraries that offer an insight into their Greek and Turkish destinations. Choose from archaeology, gastronomy, history and music themed cruises which bring to life the destinations with guest speakers, performers, chefs and demonstrations onboard the cruise. The themed cruises will return for 2015 including additional dates for a seven day pilgrimage itinerary which visits the most spiritually significant sites in Greece and Turkey in October and a seven day ANZAC centenary cruise with two departures in April to mark the hundredth anniversary of the first major militaryaction fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. The tour takes in sites in Istanbul, Limnos Myrina, Izmir, Mitilini and Canakkale (Gallipoli).

New itineraries for 2015

New voyages for 2015 include seven-night itineraries on the Cristal from the southern Italian port of Bari which take in 12 new ports of call in the Ionian and Adriatic seas and along the Dalmatian coast, including Cofu and Kalamata in Greece, Saranta in Albania, Dubrovnik in Croatia and Kotor in Montenegro.
