Cancun is not normally a place that you would associate with gourmet food and wine events.  Rather it’s a place known more for sun, sand and exotic Mayan ruins, but festival founder, David Amar, says that his aim is to offer one of the most magical and memorable gourmet lifestyle festivals in the world. Ticket numbers will be limited so guests can enjoy exclusive interaction with chefs, sommeliers, and wine makers.  It will be staged in 5-Star oceanfront resorts, island beach clubs, luxury yachts, authentic haciendas, archaeological wonders, and the “Quinta Avenida” in Playa del Carmen.

After the success of the inaugural festival this year, which showcased wine and food of the Americas, in 2013 the theme will be Europe meets the Americas with the emphasis on Italy and Mexico.  Massimo Bottura, praised for his avant-garde cuisine in his restaurant Oesteria Francescana, (number 4 in the world) and Mexican Enrique Olvera, whose Pujol is ranked 36, will be there for all 3 days.  This unique collaboration between 2 different culinary cultures promises will certainly be food for thought…

Other chefs will include Spain’s Mikel Alonso, USA’s Mark Ladner, Marc Vetri, Fabio Trabocchi, and Jared Reardon.  Mexico will be represented by Aquiles Chávez, Daniel Ovadía, Manuel Baños, Antonio de Livier, Javier Plascencia, Josefina Santa Cruz, Diego Hernández, Elena Reygadas, Jair Tellez and Daniele Müller. The international scene is represented by Guy Santoro (France), Jerome Ferrer and Jean-Marc Guillot (Canada), Nelson Méndez (Venezuela) and Fernando Trocca (Argentina).

It’s no accident that wine comes first in the title. Famous Sommeliers will lead exceptional wine tastings from wineries of the Americas and Europe. Doug Frost (one of only three people in the world to hold the Master of Wine and Master Sommelier Titles), Elyse Lambert (top Sommelier of the Americas), Veronique Rivest  (Best Sommelier of Canada) and Juan Carlos Flores Mazón (best Sommelier of Mexico 2004) will be among those taking part.
